Shelter from the Storm
The concept and design are pretty straightforward here: the log cabin block to reinforce "shelter," and warm skin tones for the house versus cool, grey, storm colors outside. I really enjoyed choosing the fabrics to tell the story of windblown leaves, driving rain, rising water and ominous clouds. The minimal quilting is meant to emphasize this with some diagonal machine quilted rain and vertical hand quilted rain, plus a bit of ribbon rain and embroidery that mimics meteorological symbolism. Other information can be found on my blog post.
